According to published reports, the Raps have pulled off a four-team deal that will see them able to fit free agent Hedo Turkoglu in and possibly resign guard Carlos Delfino. The deal, which Star scribe Doug Smith has dubbed "the single greatest masterstroke achieved by a Raptors general manager" since he's been covering the team (which is forever), sends Shawn Marion and Kris Humphries to the Dallas Mavericks for Devean George and Antoine Wright. There's a bunch of other moves in there involving other players, cash and more math than I can handle in the morning, but those are the basics when it comes to what the Raps emerge with.
So, between this and yesterday's re-signing of Andrea Bargnani, is Colangelo back to wizard genius status in the eyes of Raptor fans? Will his majestic grill regain its winning shine? Many fans have been diving off the Colangelo bandwagon all season as the Raptors slogged through a disappointing, post-seasonless 08/09. The man with the magic tan seemed to have lost his midas touch. While many will remain skeptical until they witness the Raptors on-court performance improve with their very own eyes, it seems in the span of just a few days, folks are once again singing BC's praises.

Koby must be getting nervous.

With all these movements, 100% more Turks will fill the seats at the ACC for the one year they have a slim chance to make the playoffs...... then it is bye bye Bosh, and Turkoglu will want out.

Come on do you really think Bosh would leave if we bring in a guy like Hedo....pls bro....do you honestly think Hedo would sign on for 50mil ok bad point......but come on
Go Raps Go

Is this a championship team? Who is our Center? Nobody that's who! Boston never really had a center but they did have a huge power forward "KG". This is a playoff team, no doubt, but there going to have to go that extra mile.

BC is the best!

This should bring the Raps back to the playoffs, but I wouldn't even guarantee 2nd round. In other words, for you geniuses, Kobe is not worried, he might even be happy that Hedo has left Orlando. The Eastern Conference finals is nowhere near what they will see. This does not even bring them close to Boston, Cleveland or Orlando who are still much better teams. And this does not even come close to guaranting Bosh will not leave next year. Yeah, Hedo is good, but playing with Hedo and playing with LeBron are two different things.
Don't get me wrong this is a good move. The best part is having room for more signings or re-signings. What I have learnt is that Colangelo is neither the genius we deemed him two years ago, or the failure we labelled him this past season. He is a good to above-average GM, no more, no less. And I will be waiting for the next move.
In the end though, many fans will wait to decide whether they want on or off the Bandwagon when Bosh decides where he wants to be. Thats okay, the real Raptors fans will still be there no matter what he decides. Go Raps!

This is a huge signing for the Toronto Raptors and my props go out to Mr. Colangelo for being able to pull off this trade such as he did. Now in regards to above comments made about the Raptors being a playoff bound i agree that this deal is a huge one for the team and "should" definitely push them into a playoff berth in 09'. However, i just don't think that with the other powerhouses in the east (Celtics, Cavaliers, Magic) they will go far into the playoffs in 09'. I'm a Raptors fan for life, but i just don't think the team is strong enough to compete with the other beasts in the east (and West for that matter). Finally, all this talk with the Chris Bosh is getting quite tiresome. WIll he re-sign? Will be pickup his option for 10/11? In my opinion i believe that Bosh will pickup his player option for 10/11 and re-sign with the Raptors for a couple years at a very handsome $ figure. Bosh would be stupid to leave Toronto, just for the simple fact that he wouldn't be the franchise superstar anywhere else.

Genius!? what....rewind...end of season BC's presss conference; team needs more toughness , our point guard can't play D....etc. (something alone those lines). And yes those were exactly what the team needed. So what Mr.Genius does, gets another shooter, another Bargnani. And no Evans is not the answer to your thoughness , his a 5min player, .....Genius no no no.....Yes T.O is a great multicultural city...but it does not mean we should have a EuroLeague team!!!!

Genius, LOL, please. How well this works will determine his "genius", not number-crunching and signing the big Turk. He was supposed to be a genius getting J Oneal last year too if I remember correctly, and we all saw what a disaster that turned out to be.
Dont like losing Kris H, as he was one guy with muscle out there, even as slow as he was. Gotta admit that I do like the rumour that he is trying to get Rasho back - now THERE is a guy who can help around the hoop, just not for too many minutes per game.
As for Bosh, he is definitely the best we got, but not really into super-star category, which is for the likes of Kobe, D-Wade, Lebron, D-Howard, etc. I hope he stays, but Chris isnt at the level to attract the top-level free-agents that the others can. He is better than a Ru-Paul insult from Shaq, but he needs serious help getting us anywhere, including into the playoffs. Im not sure this puts us there - I hope so, but last year made me very wary of what BC does. I'll hold off on the genius label - cuz I believe calling one a genius when he isnt makes one an idiot - and Im not talking about BC there !

Can they make it? No doubt to the first round, doubtful beyond that
What this team needs is a superstar that they draft, sign for a gagillion years and ride into the playoffs year after year
I like Chris Bosh, I really do, but he is only good for a few more years
If we could get a great draft pick and sign the guy for forever, then we would be laughing
Thats how the powerhouses do it, we need to take a lesson
Think of what would have happened if the Raps had signed some of their early draft picks ( Stoudimire, VC, etc) for a 10 year contract

Go Raps Go! That said, the recent moves had to be made, but do little to address the need for a quality centre who can at least play defense. All teams know of this major weakness, and unless this point is addressed, all the recent moves are window dressing which looks familiar to what the Leafs have done successfully since 1967. Bring in a couple of guys, get the butts into the seats, make the play offs and increase ticket prices with the promise that things will get better next year. GET A CENTRE either draft and develop one, trade for one if you can, but the centre issue MUST BE A FOCAL POINT OTHERWISE LIKE SHAKSPHERE ONCE SAID " Much ado about nothing !"

Does any of the following describe BC ?
Sports Coaches and managers are often regarded as geniuses.
This is a term thrown around by desperate fans and talking heads on network T.V.
One simply does not fall in and out of being a genius.
You either are or aren't. Simple as that.
Case in point.
Part time genius.
Bill Belichick
We all know that Bill and the Patriots won 3 Super Bowls in four years.
Between 2001 and 2005, the Patriots became the second team in NFL history (after the Dallas Cowboys) to win three Super Bowls in four years (Super Bowl XXXVI, XXXVIII, and XXXIX), and the eighth to win consecutive Super Bowls. The Patriots, however, were defeated by the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII, after winning the first 18 games of their 2007 season. Under quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick, the Patriots have also compiled the two longest winning streaks in NFL history, an 18-game streak in 2003-2004, and a 21-game streak in 2006-2008 (the NFL excludes playoff games from their records).
Sounds like genius status to me.
So what happened to genius Bill in 2002 and 2008 when they completely missed the playoffs?
Did his genius memory chip come down with a virus.
Anyway, you get my point.
Go RAPS Go !!!

Dudes, who is going to play defense! I think Jose can play better defense with a healthy knee/hamstring,Bosh is above average, Bargnani is learning and Evans will help, but the Raps still have a ways to go to match up with the other top defensive teams in the East. Go Raps Go.

Belichick didn't look like a genius when they lost the Super Bowl to the Giants after going undefeated for the season a couple years ago. They didn't have a decent back-up QB when their main man Tom Brady was injured last season.
