Dillian Whyte longed for a WBC Heavyweight Championship title shot, but the 40-year-old former WBA Heavyweight Champion Alexander Povetkin defeated him via knockout.

On Saturday in Brentford, England, a fight between Whyte and Povetkin was held at Matchroom Boxing’s Fight Camp.

During the first four rounds, Whyte had the upper hand. In Round 2, he landed a lot of rapid punches to Povetkin’s frame. In Round 3, Whyte pummeled Povetkin with two colossal hooks, and the Russian’s legs dipped as a result. In Round 4, Whyte even knocked Povetkin down two times.

Although Whyte appeared quick-witted and landed numerous quick jabs, Povetkin still countered with several hits to the body.

However, in Round 5, Povetkin caught Whyte off-guard with his smartly executed left uppercut. Whyte tried to get up hurriedly, but by the time he almost managed to recover, the fight was already over.

Povetkin celebrated an impressive victory, and Whyte had no choice but to laud his opponent since the speculated title shot is not likely to happen anymore.
