Some things just make me sick. Pints of gin on an empty stomach, for example. Or maybe a nice greasy pork sandwich served in a dirty ashtray. Also incredibly rich people who happen to be really nice and happy with their life. (Somehow the insanely wealthy are easier to take when you picture them miserable workaholics with kids that hate them.) Anyhoo, add to the list phenomenally talented athletes that also happen to be amazing in other sports.
Sidney Crosby crossed that line yesterday when he hit a home run at Pittsburgh's PNC Park during a Penguins field trip to Pirates batting practice.
Crosby, who also happens to be very wealthy, called the whole thing "Pretty cool."
Don't mind those loud retching noises, I'll just be over here in the corner. Thanks, Mr. Crosby. Next thing you know, he'll be a scratch golfer.
What's to argue abput, the kid is a natural. Who says he could be a top rate golfer. Those who accuse him could not do what he does. let the kid alone and watch him go. Jim Dore

The Kid has got talent and skill. Good for him. Keep it up. I enjoy watching you play.

What's with those lips....is he wearing lipstick?
Posted by: Trips | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 02:40 PM
when you got it, you got it!
BTW I am a Montreal Canadiens fan so I pretty much hate the guy for the goals he scores against my team.

Sid the kid is like superman. Is there nothing this kid can do? Amazing!
Posted by: sonja | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 02:45 PM
I don't like Sydney Crosby, I think he's overrated, being from where he like, grew up all I would hear about is Sidney Crosby this, Sidney Crosby that. Who care if he hit a home run, big whoop, it could have been luck just like the goal he scored in the Olympics. Pure luck. I'm sick of hearing about him, Lindsay Lohan, Justin Bieber, they can all choke on an ice cream sandwich.
Posted by: Me | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 02:58 PM
He rocks!! He's not over-rated, just over-paid like all professional athletes. Some people are naturally gifted and some are just naturally miserable. Lunch time!! Hope I don't choke on my ice cream sandwich!!
Posted by: KT | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 03:07 PM
he is a natural athlete, good for him
Posted by: ross | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 03:09 PM
This is great, a great Canadian boy doing great for himself and for his country in the Olympics. It's just too bad he's not playing for a Canadian team.
Posted by: Brian Perry | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 03:12 PM
Hey "Me". He didn't get to where he is through luck. he is a gifted hockey player and athlete. Also seems to be genuinely decent human being. You're tired of hearing about him? I'd rather hear more about him than most of the other over-paid pro athletes.
And Vito, I'm a Canadiens fan too. I don;t hate him for the goals he scores against us. I just wish he was wearing bleu-blanc-rouge!
Posted by: Ted | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 03:41 PM
Sidney Crosby is a skilled athlete with the gift of natural talent. He is also a Canadian icon and success story that handles himself pretty darn well at such a young age. To average folk his salary is obviously going to seem out of whack. With any insight in the business of pro sports, his salary is relative to the business of hockey and what people are willing to pay for. In my opinion, anyone knocking such a great individual has their own issues to check into.
Posted by: OKRay | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 03:46 PM
Maybe he learns to act his age next time his team is on the verge of playoff elimination. (Instead of having a tantrum and smashing his stick on the goalpost and jettisoning it away.)
And in regards to the Olympic Gold Medal Goal...he is just the guy who " shot the puck " . Give Iggy and the rest of the team some credit.
Posted by: Attitude Era | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 04:15 PM
hey attitude era, get yr head out of yr butt. if the kid didn't show emotion on losing he wouldn't be human. good on ya Sydney.
Posted by: keep it real | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 04:46 PM
Very Impressive! But I think that Cammalleri's Home Run vs. The PENS in the Playoffs was far more entertaining.
Posted by: Brian | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 04:47 PM
There are alot of good posts here, however, we should all be astonished he hit a ball out of the park. Non of us could do that! He's humble & down to earth & by the way he did give credit to the rest of the olympic team about winning. He was ironically the one who shot the puck in order for our country to celebrate.
Posted by: Proud Fan | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 04:52 PM
I prefer Toews. Crosby lacks professional demeanor.
Oh and "Keep it Real" ...that Crosby tantrum would have been 10 minutes for "anyone else" in the arena. Nearly clipped Jaro Halak.
Not to mention the handshake snub on Lidstrom just the year before, coupled with grabbing the Cup and skating around hte ice like a kid, as oppose to maybe handing it off to um, well lets see here....anyone on his team ?
Posted by: Attitude Era | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 05:01 PM
who frickin cares.he is a spoiled kid and an attitude.many more hockey players that I like as players better than him even if he is canadadian
Posted by: Jen depower | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 05:23 PM
Very Humble Syd. True leadership. You are a true Canadian.
Posted by: 1cmp | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 05:24 PM
I betcha he would also score a Perfect 10 in Olympic Diving. He has so much experience during the regular and (especially post) season of the NHL.
I know Sid...ITS NOT FAIR !!! ( It never is)
Posted by: Attitude Era | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 05:35 PM
While I don't like his whining, you can't deny natural gifts. This guy's been in the spotlight & in the crosshairs of opponents more than half his life. He takes a beating but still gives 110% for the TEAM every shift. Sure he's going to get frustrated, who wouldn't? I'd take Sid's heart over Ovie's skill anytime.
Posted by: Geoff | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 06:03 PM
Just one word - Gretzky. Until Syd gets 100 goals and 100 assists in a year and breaks a few other records he's just another wanna be. We'll have to wait and see how it goes. As for home runs..hitting a homer is not hard...hitting a homer off a great pitcher who means business is hard.
Posted by: BBJack | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 06:09 PM
I agree there Geoff, and would take Crosby over any Soviet - however EVERY PLAYER " takes a beating for the TEAM every shift "
The point is, he needs some growing up to do - real fast. Or maybe the "Bettman Money Machine" is putting TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON marketing a kid that can't handle it.
Maybe Bettman should repackage that Marketing Prowess on a " Kid" that CAN handle it - such as Toews.
Toews - Out 19 games with a serious concussion - In the interview, " Did you feel that was a cheap shot Jomathan "
Toews : " No, it was a good hit. I should have seen him coming "
You would never get that response outa Crosby and he is a natural Player that needs to Toughen up - fast ! (and learn to protect himself)

Spoilt Brat , over paid
Posted by: brass | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 06:19 PM
Every player takes a beating for his team? There are many who skate for the $$ and themselves (ie. Kovalev, Carey Price, even Ovie). Crosby has the biggest target on him, always has. And now he plays in an era where an enforcer isn't allowed to police other teams. I agree he needs grow up as an elite star, but man, he's taken heaps of abuse since he was a pre-teen.
Posted by: Geoff | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 06:31 PM
The only whiners I see are the people who are writing their comments here. Being jealous of Crosby is so not mature. All you wannabees should shut up and get back to your tv remote and your beer.
Posted by: Igor | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 07:19 PM
Ok, now Geoff - this is the problem. Your even begining to sound like Crosby.

"Igor" - yes your right, exept for the Beer part. I don't drink.
Of course I am jealous of Crosby's ability. I would love to have what he has. Except - his lack of professionalism, and that is the problem that I have with him. The NHL is marketed for Sid like the WWE is marketed for John Cena.
The ref's are afraid to blow the whistle when its Crosby, and Bettman treats him like he is his own son. Other star NHL players actually had to pay their dues to get where they want.

To bad we have to read comments posted by people that might not even have a job let alone a skill. Go drink your beer and beat your puppy, Crosby shits bigger than you negetive idiots. He is the best in his class as was Gretzky in his no comparison the way the is played today. It would be funny to watch you big mouths practice with him on and off the ice that might shut your hole.
Posted by: Max | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 07:36 PM
"Max" - That would perhaps be an interesting comment... if it were written in English. Go back to your Pre-Cambrian days.
WHAT ????
Posted by: Attitude Era | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 07:55 PM
Sidney Crosby is a great hockey player because he was a great athlete FIRST. Instead of specializing early in hockey, and going to hockey camp after hockey clinic after hockey camp every summer, he played baseball.
Too bad more families and kids trying to be good at sports today don't GET that. Maybe this story will help hammer home that point.
Posted by: Fred Smith | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 08:08 PM
I'm sick & tired of all these nasty comments by people who couldn't score a goal if the net was the width of the rink, or hit a baseball if it was the size of a beach ball ... ask any general, if they had a choice of any player to build their team around who would they choose ... take a look at some of the positive things this kid has done, and where were you when you were 23??? ... keep up the good work Sid, and remember, if you weren't a superstar, we wouldn't have to listen to these jerks!!!
Posted by: traftraf | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 08:13 PM
Um, "Traf Traf" - Just a few points. #1 He is suppose to be a pro - it doesn't matter if any of us could score on a reg. size net - it just plain damn is not our job. # 2 He is good at this - yet does not act like a pro. He acts like a little kid. I had to suffer through 7 games watching his PENS be defeated by my Beloved Habs this spring, and believe me - his conduct was anything but pro. I don't know how I managed to sit and watch his whining - but he sounded much like Mel Gibson. Whenever he dove - he looked at the referee's - ( "I am Sidney Crosby - thats a penalty !" ) Their was definatley a different "code of conduct" acceptable for Crosby vs. the rest of the players.
#3 Once again- you ask...." if they had a choice of any player to build their team around who would they choose ? " - Once again....JONATHAN TOEWS !!!!
# 4 - The funniest part of your post was this - " keep up the good work Sid, and remember, if you weren't a superstar, we wouldn't have to listen to these jerks!!! " Um...do you think you are typing this to him ? Do you think Crosby is listening ? LMAO !!!
And - Well, yes, he is a Superstar - so he better get used to it. If he cannot take this - Ohh boy....
You sound like your name spelled Backward.

Att. Era, you seem to be doing enough whining of your own. I'm just playing devil's advocate to all those that dislike him without much thought (and I'm not a Pens fan).
Toews needs a bit of Sid & vice versa to balance out their personalities.
It's clear you don't like him. We get it. Give it up & move on.

Almighty Geoff,
I do feel that I am allowed to voice my opinion, that although I do admire his skill, he requires some Professional Grooming.
Nice enough for ya ;) ?
Posted by: Attitude Era | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 08:44 PM
AE, so you don't get it, afterall? Funny you're a Habs fan, though... Carey Price is an overpaid proclaimed "star" who's very mature & professional, isn't he? What's he done for his team? Squat. Seems to me I've seen him break a stick or two, though. You sound like a bitter Habs fan, tired of losing. Cheer up, you could be a Leafs fan!!
Posted by: Hcky4Life | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 09:14 PM
Jealousy is a strange beast.
Beware if you ride it, it just might consume you!
Posted by: Lloyd | Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 11:54 PM
You ASSume I'm a Leafs fan? I'm a lifelong Habs fan but take exception to ignorant donkeys like you that give a hard time to anyone that disagrees with you. No rebuttal on Price? 'Gay for life' is your best shot? Grow up, leave your Montreal bubble and try being a real hockey fan.

It's just batting practice... A 13 year-old kid could hit a batting practice HR out of PNC Park... Let's see Cindy try to hit a 12-6 curve or a slider.

You may remenber the four proverbs:
The outsider sees the most of the game.
The pen is mightier than the sword.
The pot calls the kettle black.
There are spots in the sun.
