We all know the real reason anyone watches the Super Bowl is to see the ads - at least that's what I've observed. There is usually just as much hype leading up to the big day for the over-priced ads as there is for the over-paid players.
I've also noticed a steady decline in the 'awesomeness' factor of the ads. They used to be so dependable, so reliably funny, smart and entertaining. Now they're mostly whacky concepts and more often than not include animals put in human roles. That said, there were some good ones this year, including a few from Doritos and Audi that I found to be pretty funny.
So without further delay, click the read more link to watch some of the best ads we could find.
I thought the Audi 2010 Green Car commercial was awesome. By far the best of all the commercials I watched. Nexted I enjoyed the E Trade one. It was quick and witty. The snickers commerial was good.
Unfortenately we Canadians do not get to enjoy these commerials at air time. What is the explanation for this? I mean a good, reasonable one.

Not sure i understand Liz's comment or the story line. Live in Kingston, Ontario - watched the game on CBSHD channnel and saw every commercial......wierd.

That Audi commercial actually had the opposite effect on me. I found it turned me off of the concept of going green. The whole eco-nazi thing is too close to reality to be that funny. Or maybe they didn't do a good job delivering the concept in the commercial. Not sure.
- The Snickers commercial gave me a chuckle.
- Godaddy needs to freshen up their commercials - too predictable.
- The Etrade commercials are always funny.
- The Kia commercial - all I can say is WTF??
- The coke commercial was dumb and felt long
- The Charger , Google and Career Builder had some punch
- The Taco Bell was lame lame lame
Overall, nothing overly stellar this year.

Just our Canadian Cable providers making another bunch of money. Even if you watch it on a supposed "American Channel", they cut in to the telecast and substitute Canadian commercials that we have already seen many times before in order to resell the whole advertising product to be watched by all of us suckers tuning in to see some "new" material in between plays of a pretty darn football game. Sort of "Double Dipping".

I loved the Dodge Charger and then the Audi Green Commercial.

I live in NB and have Rogers VIP. Channel 523 CBSHD - I saw every commercial, unlike last year. I was a little disappointed. There are not any that I want to bring up with my friends today. The beer guys need some fresh material.

Canadian TV Sucks!!
Specially on the Super Bowls days..
Why do we have to be dennied of one of the important parts of the Super bowl celebration?
TV commercials are part of the party, along with the game....And the people who run TV channels here knows it...
And the worse part was in the Halftime show, after the musical part, someone(only a STUPID CANADIAN) decided to show the main musical theme for the Vancouver Olimpics....Deep inside me I wanted to trow a rock to the TV...Olimpics start on friday..not yesterday..
Comm'on HALTIME REPORT is important too....Let me guess.........AH.....the guy who runs the programming doesn't knows a penny of Futball..that's why.
Geeee.......

I think one of the best ones was the McDonalds commercial with Lebron and Dwight Howard. It spoofed the old ad between Larry Bird and MJ. It was pretty funny

I loved the Dorito ad with the dog putting the collar on the man and taking the Dorito's
Great laugh

E-trade was hilarious - love those kids!
Posted by: Mike | Monday, February 08, 2010 at 09:46 AM
Think the KIA commercial was all about toys--the toys that we played with all the time as favourites when we were young...and the toy we play with now that we're all grown up -- the KIA -- with the next generation of kid toy user in the back seat...
My take anyway

I live in Alberta and caught all of the commericals on CBS HD. Maybe the thought police in Canada have not figured out to stop US commericals on HD>
Aside from that the for the most part the commericals where a chuckle and the game good.

The ads were OK But the game was not as exciting as the Grey Cup.
Posted by: Gordo | Monday, February 08, 2010 at 11:42 AM
I also saw all the ads on CBSHD......stay away from CTV's feed from now on!

I can't believe the Budweiser one with the foal growing up with the bull was not on here. That one was just sooooo great. (Far better than the Godaddy ones or even the Coke one.) I loved it.
Posted by: Arianna | Monday, February 08, 2010 at 01:27 PM
Just so everyone knows....the reason why Liz did not see the Commercials is the same reason why I didn't......we dont have HD channels. Regular television did not have the commercials as they were only made for HD. Leave her alone....she's not an idiot, she just still has the poor mans television.....as many of us do!! BTW...the uadi commercial was AWESOME!!!
Posted by: Amy | Monday, February 08, 2010 at 03:02 PM
Ok, all you guys and gals complaining and dissing Canada, please stop it. This is an AMERICAN broadcast, and these are AMERICAN teams playing. (bottom line, our stations don't get a penny from the several hundred million spent by companies crazy enough to advertise during the Superbowl ) If you want to see the show the way they do in the states, then buck up and pay for satellite tv. Then you can watch in 4 different time zones if you want. If you are not proud of being Canadian, I suggest you search for opportunities in the U.S.. After living there for a while, you will be begging to come back to the best country on the planet.

Someone asked "why we didn't get the US ads during the Superbowl?" Come on !!
It's all about $$$$$ Canadain broadcasters pay big $$ to CBS for the Superbowl so they can sell the ad time to Canadian companies and therefore make $$$. Doesn't anyone watch Dragon's Den. It's all about making $$$$.
Posted by: Robert | Monday, February 08, 2010 at 03:41 PM
I was watching CBSHD on my Bell dish and couldnt see any US ads, they were all CTV olympics ads. At the end of the night that song made (I believe) me nauseous.
Apperently, My buddy who has Starchoice (Shaw) had the US ads.
My 2 cents worth

The baby boy in the Etrade commercial is Canadian from Barrie, I think. Cute
Posted by: dood | Monday, February 08, 2010 at 04:36 PM
Don't blame the tv channels, blame the Canadian advertisers. They're the ones who will not pay for decent commercials here in Canada.
Posted by: Rick | Monday, February 08, 2010 at 05:56 PM
If you are watching the commercials on satellite or cable, the american commercials are edited out. If you watch them with a digital box, most likely you are picking up the american feed.
Posted by: john | Monday, February 08, 2010 at 07:54 PM
Anyone who thinks any eTrade commercial with a talking baby is the least bit funny should hand their brains in now because apparently you aren't using them anyway.

Thanks for this web page,,,I was so pissed off last night, especially when 51% of us watch the SB to see the commercials. That is the biggest problem with Canada,,,they treat us like little children. I pay big bucks for HD satellite, yet I'm not old enough to decide whether I want to watch US or Canadian commercials??? I wish someone would take that SB football and find the guy at CTV and ram it @$%&*.
Posted by: BTCookie | Monday, February 08, 2010 at 08:27 PM
Even though Canada didn't receive many (or any) of these commercials, could you imagine watching the game in Australia? I didn't get to see any of these ads (just crappy aussie ads) or the full game properly! Not even the half time stuff! I miss Canada and the US. Especially aroudn this time of year with NFL, NHL, and now the Winter Olympics. *sigh*

Re:Liz Siple"why Canadians can't see these commercials"
Well even though we live in a democratic country, theCRTC (our government) says we have to watch the Canadian feed which shows only Canadian commercials. Which is to the delight of the Canadian stations. As I would certainly watch the American stations to see all the great ads.But then the Canadian stations wouldn't get anyone to advertise during the game and therefor wouldn't be able to pay the American broadcaster for the rights to the game. Heres to Freedom of Choice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Mike | Tuesday, February 09, 2010 at 09:59 PM
Morons!!!!!!!! Liz has valid question! The CRTC controls cable and satellite so you see what they want you too! Ignore those ignoramouses Liz especially the ones who can't even spell right!!
