The two superpowers of women's hockey met once again to decide the title of World's Best. This time, it was Canada, winning the gold medal game 2-0 over the U.S.
The Canadians were led in the first period by 18-year-old Marie-Philip Poulin's two goals - which were all Canada needed to capture the gold.
The Americans came into the game the reigning world champs, after beating Canada 4-1 in Hameenlinna, Finland. Canada, on the other hand, was hoping to keep its Olympic streak alive and add another gold to complement the two won in Salt Lake City and Turin.
Shannon Szabados - Canada's goaltender, stopped all 28 shots by the Americans to earn herself an incredible shutout.

What a great game! I can't belive the ref though! I'm assuming paid off? Please tell me how a Canadian can get cross checked and end up being the one with a penalty for unsportsman-like conduct???? Replay of Utah!!! UNBELIEVABLE, but even through the cheating they won!

Posted by: Trevor | Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 10:52 PM
I thought the "Ladies" on both teams played an awesome game and feel even more proud to be "CANADIAN". The one thing I noticed was the US team certainly showed their "poor sportswomen like attitude" throughout the whole ceremony because they didn't win the gold. Other medal winners have shown better team spirits after winning any medal.

Congratulations Team Canada on a hard fought victory!
Posted by: SW | Friday, February 26, 2010 at 09:27 AM
I totally agree with C.Butler's comment. The american ladies were not very receptive to winning silver, as a matter of fact they all looked downright p.....off. What's the matter with you ladies can't you accept a medal gracefully. You lost, deal with it.
Way to go Canada. I'm proud to be a Canadian..
Posted by: misha | Friday, February 26, 2010 at 09:31 AM
Congradulations on a supreme effort girls. You have made us so proud to be Canadian and after hearing the negative trash talking Amercian women who did nothing to enhance their image after losing. As for Scott Gardners comments on the after party well ladies don't think nothing of the "Esquire" like trash he presented to us we all love you and your efforts for Canada! Don't we all like to celebrate victories??????? Huh ya knot head (Scott Gardner "the Sleaze") maybe you ladies should of offered him a drink?

Awesome hockey game girls! It's a shame theirs only 2 teams that have even a remote chance of winning gold. Oh well, I suppose it's good for our ego!
Posted by: Lou | Friday, February 26, 2010 at 11:51 AM
I think the reporter who said the ladies where drinking on the ice after the game should have his brain checked. After the Us won the cup last year many where drinking on the ice. The women played the best hockey I have seen ever. They did not play like the guys and the reporter who said they did was just like the america hockey teem who where sore losers.
Ladies you did Canada proud , could you please come and theach Canada NHL teems how to play hockey.
Posted by: William Fellober | Friday, February 26, 2010 at 12:12 PM
Great game ladies, but your actions afterwards may come to haunt you.
Posted by: Wally | Friday, February 26, 2010 at 12:22 PM
Women's hockey rocks! Actually, Mic was the moron making the comment "Who cares about women's hockey", not Marie. Of course it was a guy saying that. Its nice to see some celebratory comments by other guys who are less moronic. Honestly, women's hockey seems to me to be more skillfully played, as the game is intended. There's more ice time, less aggro bullshit in general it seems, although the US team for sure showed their colours with the crap they pulled. Thanks to our Ladies for playing with integrity, kicking ass and making us proud!

Way to go Girls, The best game of the series, as for celebrating after the win I personally feel you can do anything you want to do, there will always be bitching if you win, or if you would have lost.
Have fun and enjoy the win....

So, the girls were having drinks "on ice".no pun intended. What's the big deal ?? When hockey players are handed the "Stanley cup" , they fill it with champagne to celebrate.
Posted by: misha22 | Friday, February 26, 2010 at 12:56 PM
Way to go Canadian women's hockey team.....WOW! No apologies needed... after all the women got the gold...their turn to party so you go girls! Party on!

EXCELLENT JOB as all ways ladies! The advertisement for the game was not great, "they" think we only want to know about the men's teams (why, when they are not doing that great, pump the ego's more why don't you) and not about the women’s teams. I found out about the game the day of the game, you darn right I cancelled my plans and watched the game. Fantastic, not just team Captain but to all the ladies you are an inspiration to all not just the younger generation. All the athletes are doing an excellent job! I am, as always, so proud to be Canadian! GO CANDA GO!!! :)

What no teenagers in your end of the World or Life!! Be careful how you critize our Women for their hijinks at the after game party. Perhaps you should take your olympics and take a hike. We love them and they deserve to celebrate a well deservered win. Creeps that sit back and critize have never accomplished anything themselves.
Posted by: Steve | Friday, February 26, 2010 at 02:49 PM
You make a girl proud to be a Canadian! Well done!!!!
Posted by: bd | Friday, February 26, 2010 at 05:40 PM
It was a pity that their on ice performance during the game was marred by their post game activities. Whether they like it or not, they are role models for young women. Drinking and smoking in public, and their uniforms, gave the wrong optics. Our government and education programs are trying to point out to our youth the damaging effects of drinking and smoking; and at and at the moment when we could have pointed to the team as an example of what can be gained from a healthy life style, out comes the nicotine and alcohol. You really do need to learn how to take victory in a more responsible way.

Congrats to our Canadian Women's hockey team!!! Made us all proud.
As for your little party afterwards... who cares. You deserve to celebrate. As others have said, it's ok for the men to drink out of the Stanley Cup and have it shown publicly. So enjoy.
Posted by: Wendy | Friday, February 26, 2010 at 07:38 PM
Lori...yes...somebody was paid off alright!!! Congratulations to our Canadian girl's team....I'm so proud of you... You are and were the best all along. What a fun evening we had cheering you on...and yes, we had a few beers to celebrate... I may just go buy myself a cigar too...lol

What is happening to the UK? Are not the next summer Olympics to be on the Island, eh? And they only got one medal here! I guess they are good at rasing hell and drinking beer, but are not sportsmen, or sportswoman.
