Well after many months of speculation, injuries and preview shows, Steve Yzerman and his crew have formally announced Team Canada's Olympic hockey roster.

We'll spare you the narration, hot air and pointless details (that's what the CTV guys are for - we're lucky they got through the line-up / interviews / milking of commercial time before the Olympics actually started) and get right down to the line up.

Sounds like a silver medal to me

I was expecting some different picks, but they look good.Congrats.team Canada. We`re behind you all the way to the gold.

mike fisher should have been picked. hes got more grit than half the forwards on there.
and crosby... assistant captain?! hes still a kid....

gold medal team, nonetheless

Funny how most of the "D" are from BC

why did'nt any Toronto Maple Leafs get picked for the team ?? LOL

silver if we are lucky. bad d picks forwards look good

I think a noticeable absence is Dustin Penner. He's been a force on the ice this year, despite his team's poor performance. A huge, fast forward would be useful.

They still don't know how to put a team together. too many OLD players. Neidermayer is too old and has not had a good season to date the same with Pronger. theres far better D men in Canada then them. With the high flying Russians and Sweds there old legs will crumble. We pick names not the best players that cost us in more the one big turnament.

Gold medal, but where's Dion Phaneuf?

this team lookes as good as it can get gor for gold boys

not impressed, player's that deserve to be on the team from hard work and playing hard are where???? Some player's because of their names are on the team not right, Anyways hope we still do good.

I agree wtih Steven........names, not necessarily best players. Guess we'll know how it worked out in a couple of months. Gott'a give Yzerman the benefit of the doubt, perhaps....

Luongo will be the reason we medal..lets hope we have some d the players are a little older and may be a factor ...Good luck Canucks

sounds like a bronze medal to me,no Habs on the team.

With Pronger no doubt sitting in the box for idiotic head shot penalties, just how will we fair against, say, a Russian powerplay of Ovie, Malkin, Semin, Kovalchuk, and Markov??
This guy has a history of suspensions for stupid penalties, did nothing in Turin, and can be more of a liability than anything. Lets hope he plays smart and stays out of the box.
Bouwmeester should have been there as the seventh d-man.

Dustin Penner is way over rated, Corey Perry is softer then ice cream, and Crosby definatly deserves an "A", he is the youngest captain ever to win a stanley cup, get real.

I think this is going to take a while 2 get over I hope this is not the best we can do

Sounds like very much to me that a medal of any color is not to be. Too old and too slow. Many notable forwards and "D" men are not on this team. The only spot where we seem to be A OK is in net if Fleury starts.

A bit surprised at some of the picks, but they look good, especially the forwards.
Maybe it's just me, but I think a few of those guys are too old.
I will still stand behind the team though, because fans always count for something!

Lets just hope these guys can gel.Gold would look nice though.

I say let show them we own Hockey..Before we get drafted to usa etc for higher dollars and win cups for them etc.
GO CANADA GO !

What I don't understand, is why the Hockey teams consists of 'professional' players, but other sports are not allowed to have "professionals", amateurs only . Sounds rigged to me. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of it all??

Hope they don't make this team wear (Pink) any color other than RED & WHITE is not Canadian. Leave our game alone. (Saturday nite hockey, took away the song. World juniors wearing green. Pepsi trying to change our hockey cheer.) This is a game of the people, not of the corperations!!!

Vinnie lecav should be there instead of stall, both are haveing a bad year point wise but Vinnie is still better. I think canada would win gold and silver if we could put in two teams. Hell even a bronze if we had three.

Very disappointed.
Where is Lecavallier and St. Louis??
If Pronger takes dirty penalties, it will hurt us.

Where is Green? and I believe Phaneuf is a better pick than Doughty. The rest of the team looks good maybe Bergeron is a little iffy but looks pretty solid lines 1-4, no worries the boys will pull it off!

CANADA KIX ASS NO MATTER WHO THEY PICK. FUCKEN RIGHTS BOY.

Surprised by some of the picks. Can't believe Mike Green isn't there, But we'll still get gold.
GO CANADA GO !

I have no idea why dan boyle is in the lineup, he is old and he isnt playing as good as his other years. doughty was a good pick because he will be in the top 4 d-men when niedermayer retires. bouwmeester and green shouldve been there, they are young and are top-notch. Pronger would be the reason why we lose. In the finals vs Russia (other top team) he is going to take a stupid penalty in overtime or the last few minutes of regulation and Ovie, Malkin, Datsyuk, Kovalchuk and Markov will be on, and we'll have niedermayer, Boyle to play D against them and they won't be able to keep up.

Goaltending will be the hardest to choose who will be the starting goalie, Brodeur is starting to show his age, Luongo has never proven himself on the big stage (playoffs) and nobody wants to put Fleury as the starter.

I think Bergeron isnt going to have any impact on the team, like Bertuzzi and they shouldve put cammalleri (19 goals) instead of him.

Thornton should be alternate captain instead of crosby, he is older and more experienced

What about Vincent? come on

I dont think Pronger should be in there. Bouwmeester or Phaneuf definitely deserve his spot i would have to say.

go canada go
i hope we win the gold .

Where's Kerry Price?

looks like a good team maybe doan should be there crosby dosent deserve an a (over rated cry baby)

yoH id rather have steve yzerman himself than patrice bergeron..unless its a competition for who can get the most concussions. pronger isnt a surprise by the way, but im sad phaneuf didnt make it whether thats a good decision or not to leave him off wont be seen till after the olympics...stamkos or brad richards i give big ups to they can play with these guys as well as my dog nate horton horton but he had no backing of course. Pretty much they should allow a second team canada in they would be just as good as the first one minus crosby

Neidermeyer & Pronger?? Are you kidding me? Why on earth would Stevie Y pick this idiot goon (Pronger) over Bouwmeester? Neidermeyer doesn't have it anymore, poor picks there. I like the forwards but it would have been nice to see Fisher there. That goofball Pronger will cost this team the gold medal, no doubt. Some stupid penalty late in a tie game. I hope he gets injured before the olympics start.

WoW this team is dissapointing.. what happen to picking the best players?? Lets start with the fwd Bergeron and Morrow, im sorry they have one good year in the nhl and their olympicans. As for defence Prongers will probably make some dumb mistakes as usual and Scott Niedermayer really shouldnt be there. He has a minus -10 season( I think) .Whats wrong with Bouwmeester he is just as good a skater and a younger Niedermayer .. Good luck team Canada but I think maybe a bronze silver might be pushing it.
Dissapointing!!!

Team looks good, too bad we couldn't submit 2 or 3 teams. My concern is no Bouwmeister, even Willie Mitchell.. Lots of offense, not sold on the Defense part. Although, there will be no breakaways against this d core.

Gold for sure. We are very proud of all the Staal's and all are great players from Thunder Bay. Thank You Eric. There is so much great talant out there from Canada and I am sure you could have made at least one more great team. I trust the coaches and it must be very hard to pick one super star and not another, lets move on. Anyone got a couple of spare tickets? 807-627-0942

If we win gold, the brass is genious!
If we don't win...then they're bums!
If we have a reserve, then LeCavalier and St.Onge should be on it.
Go Canada Go !!

you chose valable players

Pronger was such a huge pain in Turin where the large ice requires a different style of game. I certainly don't see the skill in him that others see. Perhaps the smaller ice surface will help his style of play.We shall see! I, for one, am fully expecting him to be a liability to the team, and our chances for gold.

Tough job, reasonably well done. But I am sick of hearing about Thorton, Marleau and Heatley. The first two, especially Thorton, year after year is a consistent under achiever when his team needs him the most. Lecavallier would have been a better choice. Heatley is a chicken shit selfish suck of a person and does not deserve to be representing Canada and is a poor example of a good Canadian kid.

Not to be redundant, but Pronger shouldn't have made the team. He's bound to cost us a goal or two at key times and is too old... Bouwmeester should have had that spot.

I think it's going to take some luck to bring home gold, mostlikely we'll lose in the finals to Russia.

ALSO, Getzlaf I understand, but who picked Perry???? If we wanted youthful talent and speed we should have chosen Steven Stampkos.

All in all I give Yzerman a 8/10 in his selections.

I agree from some comments Pronger is too slow and old.

Where is Jay Bowmeester? He can skate backwards faster than Pronger can skate forward!! The Europeans will skate circles around the giant Pylon!St. Louis will be missed! Good luck boys!

The players we have on our roster have heart, grit and determination. I hope we beat the hell out of the europeans! Not necessarily in a physical manner. I`m sick and very tired of our media praising the likes of those wimpy players who come here that dive or showboat. I`ll be standing and singing O Canada with pride when we win the gold medal!! GO CANADA!!

Chris Pronger...what a waste of a choice...Mike Fisher should be in...has more spunk...Forwards look ok....except for that whiner...Heatly...goalies...great.

Bronze if lucky. Believe me, (GO CANADA GO), but come on. They better keep Keith & Weber out the hole time on D. You've got the Russians, ( OV, Semin, Kovl, Malkin, ) plus a ton more of fast, powerful talent in Russia. The Swed's, U.S again have top teams. The D is going to kill us this year. I think Meals on Wheels gave a little cash to Yzerman to get Pronger on the team this year. SJ 's top line should prove it's otherwise dominance in the Olympics as well. I hope they don't try to mix Crosby in there. He's in my opinion, still not ready to lead Team Canada yet. Just another marketing push for him. I was thinking, Scotties Tissue should sponser Crosby for all the crying he does. Sorry, I had to get that shot in there. Toews, Crosby, Getzlaf would be a great line. Hope to see that happen. All in all, I hope we win it all but lets look at the compitition & compare them to what we have. I agree there should have been a few different players then what were seeing, but thats what it is. GO CANADA!!!!

No Fischer & St.Louis...............why Richards, Bergeron, Staal????[all bad years].
Too many penalties with Pronger; Niedermayer too slow, too old; where's Green and Bowmeester, Phaneuf???
Silver medal...if they don't "give up" before.

Can't get gold with that bunch, but we can say the best didn't get picked. The other countries have their best players playing.

The selections are just fine. I'm sure Canada will medal at the upcoming games.

would expect to see carey price here probably the best i've ever seen in breakaways or shootouts luongo is certainly deserving and brodeur is a given for all hes done as far as forwards and defence you could pick 3 teams easily

like the forwords and goalies dont like the defence

I am sure there will be disagreements with selections, personally, i question some of the D choices. Thats what i percieve as our weak spot. Time will tell.
Go Canada Go!

Well i beleive by keeping Mike Green (capitals) off the team huge mistake keep him as power play specialist. Highest scoring defenceman in the league and far better then pronger other then that forwards you could have chose anybody it would have been fine.

Great picks. Go Canada Go....... Great job Stevie Y and the rest of the management team. /////Gold for Canada.......... /////

Not sure about Heatley just because of his attitude. May have replaced him with Jordan Staal. Good to see thoes Blackhawk defence to add some offensive POP>

Bouwmeester is a top 6 Dman at the very least, one of the best skaters in the NHL, he should be there

Even though he is a good (not great) hockey player it is sad to see someone like Dany Heatley wearing a Canadian jersey. This jersey should only be worn by team players that are proud to be Canadian. To many proud Canadians passed over for the likes of him.Sad day!

Team look good but why are keeping lines together from the NHL. It's Canada's team!!!
Fischer should be in there and Marleau or Perry out. Defence I agree with the rest.. Pronger could hurt us. He has had his day. get Boumeester of Phaneuf in there instead.

why the lack of players on canadian teams Iginla and luongo only ?

Why Pronger? Mike Green or Dion Phaneuf would be a better fit. Also I would take Fisher over Morrow. Come on Heatly!!. Vincent Lecavalier is a much better player.

awesome team!
Yzerman strikes again! the man played with heart, he picked a team with heart (look at who is captain).
perfect team, way to go Steve.

all our support, from Nepean, Ontario

Forwards look pretty good but the D is where the problem now lies....
I can understand not picking Dion but what about Jay Bouwmeester?

Drop the old farts (Pronger) and get some young, fast skaters in there. Your gonna get killed on the penalties having Pronger in there and he can't skate like Bouwmeester and to top it off you made him a co-captain?????? WTF

i think we need souray, his huge shot on the line would be a major plus

I have great respect for Stevie Y. and his staff. We can all complain about who was chose and who was not. But I will support this team, come hell or high water! Because I AM CANADIAN !!!!!!!

When it comes to putting a team together, no one will have the same choices. I think one thing people are overlooking is team chemistry. These guys will have little time to gel together as a team on the ice. So the people making these choices have seen them play on and off the ice and know who will play well with their line mates. I have total confidence in the coaches and general managers with their choices. I expect a Gold medal like all other Canadian fans do...

Where is Lucic? Seriously? Pretty much led to victory during the World Juniors a few years back...would definitely be a leader on the ice.

Not impressed. I'm a Canadian who grew up spending a lot of time in Detroit and am very much a Red Wing Fan. I have nothing but the ut-most respect for Stevey Y. I trust his judgement but the team looks old. They didn't put Sid on the team 4 years ago and it cost them. Omitting young talent again might do the same this time around.

By the looks of this team they may not make it out of the round robins; what were these guys thinking of; where is Greene, Thornton, Lecavalier, St-Louis????????

Picks are good...team not as old as some would suggest...yes,Pronger could be a liability and I would have taken Jordan Staal in place of his brother....he would complement Richards perfectly on the PK(when Pronger is in the box!!)....am a bit worried about Heatley,Marleau and Thornton...Heatley needs to learn how to spell "team" and Thornton never seems motivated enough in big games....don't forget, the Russians, for all their talent, don't play on the other side of the red line so we'll be good for Gold.

Dion Phaneuf,Lecavallier and St. Louis, I feel they should have been on the time instead of:

Patrice Bergeron, L'Ancienne-Lorette, Que. (Boston Bruins)

Dany Heatley, Calgary, Alta. (San Jose Sharks)

Corey Perry, Peterborough, Ont. (Anaheim Ducks)

Anyone who thinks anyone other than Brodeur will start is out of there mind. Hes the best theres ever been and continues to prove it.

Bergeron is gunna be huge by setting up plays and shutting the other teams down
Canada looks good and i cant wait to see them win Gold when im there cheering them on in B.C.
Eh-O-Canada-go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think we messed up again eric staal hasnt even been that good this year and some guys are havin carreer yrs Canada always seems to pick on rep not on the current season If ryan smyth hadnt gotten hurt he would have made the team and i believe mike fisher belongs on the team based on his performance and versatility

What about Mike Fisher or John Tavares?? Might be a silver medal team -- the Russian team will be tough to beat.

Pronger???? He doesn't want to play in Canada so why should he represent us??

Congrats Team Canada!! To the Gold we go!!! Yea Iggie - you rock!!!

There were definately some suprises but lets all put a little faith in Stevey Y. He has been under a hell of alot of pressure lately in picking this team and he knows the players and the Olympics so lets just trust that he will guide us to GOLD. I know we would all like to see our favorite players named but sometimes they must pick the players they feel will have the right chemistry not just the crowd pleasers. GO CANADA GO!!!!!!!!!!!

Very disappointed. No one from Montreal Canadians.
This old team will be lucky to win bronze. Sorry I cant
root for them.

Not bad, but I would have liked to see John Travaris in there. He's played in lots of Junior Championships and is experienced.

Mike Green, Dion Phaneuf missing lots silver medal

May the best team win. Canada only appears to have solid players in the goal nets. Where is Lecavallier and St. Louis? There are many other Canadian players that could outplay and outclass this team . Sorry about that Canada, you goofed!

Where's John Travaris? He would be a great help as a forward.

Good Luck to Team Canada - you all have a brave task ahead of you and hopefully your picks will stay injury free - We will all be proud Canadians - at least for 3 weeks - hopefully all Canadians will support our athletes - they all are to be commended. - GOOD LUCK

I'd love to coach this team. I think they will do really well. Not surprised Pronger is not on the team. I watched him in Torino and he was in the penalty box all the time. Not good discipline for Olympic hockey. Eh, O' Canada Go

looks 3rd for us,
deffianetly think that russia will beat us.
the forwards look at good but what about the D?
Bad choices there.

Who are you all kidding!!! This is Canada remember! We will take Gold! Sure I could think of a few better guys that should have got the nod but we can still get it done with these guys. Go Canada!!!

heatley is a mistake . . . he is a cancer, a whiner, and don't forget a killer

remember bertuzzi on the last olympic team? bad karma

looks good on paper. all these people with negative thoughts...put on a pair of skates and see if you can do better.

Pronger!!!! what a joke. He has always put himself ahead of team mates , is poison in every dressing room , and has no respect for management. Why do you think he has been on so many different teams and is such a disappointment when asked to play as part of a team( i.e. last Olympics) .

Crosby, Nash, Brodeur and the National Junior team (maybe even the women's team)
would have been better choices than the mostly hackneyed bunch Hockey Canada bureaucrats settled upon.

THIS IS NOT THE TEAM I EXPECTED...
PRONGER SHOULD NOT BE THERE.
LOOKS LIKE A SILVER MEDAL

I really like Stevie Y but come on are you kidding me? Give your head a shake buddy! This roster doesn't even compare to the team 4 years ago!

forwards...P.Bergeron,Crosby,Vinny,St.Louis,T.Kennedy,Iginla,Thornton,Heatley,Nash,J.Staal,Doan,Toews,Penner...D_men..D.Boyle,D.Keith,I.White,S.Weber,Seabrook,Beauchemin,M-A.Bergeron.....the golden army

Where's Mike Fisher??? Dany Heatley over Fisher, come on guys!!!

Interesting only two Canadian teams are represented (Calgary & Vancouver). Let's hope experience & desire can compensate for younger legs. Silver, at best

The difficult part of this selection was who was going to be on the team. Having said that, the easiest part should have been who will not be on the team. I am confident that there are other D men who would be less of a liability than Chris Pronger. His best hockey is behind him.

i can't believe pronger is on the team but not Bouwmeester
Bouwmeester is big can pass and move the puck and control the game
Pronger just cheap shots people
mayb they are planning on getting him to take out the best player on the other teams?
