Well, what do we have here? Players from the Boston Bruins and Philly Flyers walking through the bowels of a rink and emerging onto a frozen pond. OK, I get it. It makes sense. But it just doesn't seem to have the goosebump factor that this year's Emmy-winning commercial for the '09 classic at Wrigley Field had. The 2010 Winter Classic on New Year's Day is at Boston's Fenway Park, one of the most storied shrines of sport in the world, so this effort feels a little underwhelming. More ho-hum than haymaker.

Of course, who knows what kind of restrictions were put on things like being able to show Fenway, player availability, blahblahblah. As recent events in Chicago show, sometimes sports leagues don't like to share. But something like the Classic needs a bit more ooomph. Something that hits a bit harder than an elevator ride. This year's "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" bit was a tough act to follow, sure, but it's not brain science to find another tune to get hockey folks hyped.

(a humble suggestion after the jump)

Hmmm, maybe something like this? This cover of a classic 1903 Fenway tune was good enough for the Red Sox World Series run in '04, and the Dropkick's bloody-knuckled style is no stranger to hockey either. Any other suggestions?
